Trip Itinerary

Day 1: Depart from your hometown in the United States. Upon arrival in Mexico City, you will be met by your local tour guide and transfer to the hotel we will be staying at for the duration of the trip. After checking in you will have time to rest and refresh before dinner. We will stay overnight in Mexico City.

Day 2: After breakfast we will depart for a day at the Shrine of Our Lady of Guadalupe. We will begin with Mass at the Basilica, followed by a tour of the shrine that will include the museum, Tepeyac Hill, Capilla del Cerrito, Tepeyac Garden, and the Chapel of the Indians. There will also be time for personal devotions at the Basilica of Our Lady of Guadalupe. We will stop at a local restaurant for dinner before returning to the hotel for overnight in Mexico City.

Day 3: After breakfast at the hotel, we will head to the northern part of Mexico City to Tlatelolco, where we will visit the Three Culture Square. In this square we will visit the 16th century Parish of Santiago Tlatelolco; the first Catholic church of the New World. This church is dedicated to St. James, to honor the patron saint of the Spanish. Then, we will drive out of Mexico City to visit TEOTIHUACAN, a UNESCO World Heritage Archaeological zone. There will be time to explore the ruins of the Pyramids of the Sun and the Moon and the Aztec Temple of Tlaloc and Quetzalcoatl. We will have time for shopping for arts and crafts at local shops and enjoy lunch. On the way back to the hotel, we will stop at Acolman for a tour of the former Agustinian monastery and church. We will have a delicious dinner at another local restaurant before our overnight in Mexico City.

Day 4: We will, again, have breakfast at the hotel before we leave Mexico City for a spectacular ride through the mountains to Tlaxcala and Ocotlan, "place of the burning oak", where in 1531, the Blessed Virgin appeared to Juan Diego Bernadino. The Blessed Virgin Mary burned an image of her perfections into the trunk of an old oak tree. We will also visit the Franciscan convent of Our Lady of Assumption, which today is the Cathedral of Tlaxcala. It is unique because the bell tower is a separate building from the convent. The interior has a beautiful wooden coffered ceiling in a Mudejar style. We will enjoy a tour of the Cathedral of St. Michael followed by lunch before we continue on to Puebla. In Puebla we will enjoy a tour that includes the Cathedral, the magnificent Chapel of Our Lady of the Rosary; with its famous scalloped, gold-leaf walls and ceilings; as well as St. Dominic's Church. We will have dinner at another local restaurant before overnight at our hotel in Mexico City.

Day 5: This morning our tour guide will pick us up at the hotel after breakfast and we will go to Mexico City's historical center. We will begin with Mass at Mexico´s Cathedral (Catedral Metropolitana), the oldest and largest cathedral in all of Latin America. Begun in the late 16th century, the cathedral is a medley of styles and dominates the city's huge plaza, the Zócalo. From there we will continue to visit the Mexican Government Palace, and the Ancient City of the Mexicans. In the afternoon there will be time for shopping in the handicraft shops and lunch. Then, we will visit the Aztec Exhibition Room at the Anthropology Museum. Finally, dinner at a local restaurant and overnight in Mexico City.

Day 6: We will gather for our usual breakfast at hotel before departing for Coyoacan. We will begin with Mass at the Temple of Saint John the Baptist a former Dominican Convent, located in the magic village of Coyoacan. Hernándo Cortés and the Spanish, used the area as their headquarters during the Spanish conquest of the Aztec Empire and made it the first capital of New Spain between 1521 and 1523. Then the tour continue to Xochimilco, to the Floating Gardens of Xochimilco today, these last lovely remnants of ancient Lake Texcoco and Mexican Culture. We will have our farewell dinner and return to our hotel for our last night in Mexico City.

Day 7: After breakfast, we will check out of the hotel and on our way to the airport, we will make one more visit to the Shrine of the Lady of Guadalupe for our farewell. Then we will depart Mexico City and fly back to your hometown in the United States.

Please note: We do our best to ensure that all sites listed in this itinerary will be seen. However, due to scheduling conflicts, or other circumstances beyond our control, sites may be visited on a different day than listed.
